Swami Vivekanand Govt. College, Sleemnabad, Bahoriband, Katni, M.P. is situated at Sleemnabad Gram Panchayat near Sleemnabad town under the Bahoriband Tahseel in Katni District which lies under Jabalpur Division of Madhya Pradesh. Near to it Gram Karaundi is the Tropic of Cancer line centre point of India. Civil Mines of Marble is situated nearby. Convenience’s sake train route from Sleemnabad to Katni, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Bhopal, Indore and bus route from Sleemnabad to Katni, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Bhopal and Indore are available. This college was founded in the year 1989 on the 15th of July. For this the credit goes to the residents of Sleemnabad town along with the name of Shree Vishnu Pauranik, the founder of the college. Initially college was started in a school building in the town till 2004 then it was shifted to the new building situated at Harduwa, Sleemnabad. Later as the strength of the students grew up there needed a spacious premises, hence it shifted again to a multipurpose building of Sleemnabad Gram Pnchayat and finally it has been shifted to its own and spacious premises constructed by the Department of Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh in the year 2004. The institution is affiliated to Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, M.P. The college is registered under 2f and 12B regulation of the UGC. The institution has Arts, Commerce and Science faculties under one roof.
The college has accomplished its two cycles of the NAAC Accreditation and heading towards the
accreditation process for the third cycle. Govt. Degree College, Sleemnabad, Bahoriband, Katni, M.P. offers undergraduate and post graduate programs in Arts discipline, undergraduate in Commerce and Science streams. As the institution is an affiliated college to RDVV, Jabalpur so it follows the curriculum provided by the university. Department of Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh issues the centralized academic calendar for all the higher educational institutes in M.P. The college sincerely follows the academic calendar of events prescribed by the Department of Higher Education, M.P. The Academic Calendar is uploaded on the website of the institution. Keeping in view of the academic calendar, the timetable is prepared by the timetable committee in collaboration with all the faculty members. The timetable of all the departments is also displayed on the website of the institution. According to the master timetable, teachers prepare their plans well in advance and maintain teacher diaries. Theory and practical classes are held according to the prescribed timetable. Teachers are frequently using Information and Communication Technology based teaching classes to provide quality education. The institute uses various methods and strategies, including demonstrations, practical, assignments, group discussion, projects, seminars, workshops, special lectures, educational tours and industrial visits for the implementation of the curriculum. Internal Assessment is mainly conducted through Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation in all disciplines along with practical exams and project work or internships. For all these internal assessment activities, centralized notices are issued by the examination department of the college. All these notices are pasted on the notice board of the college and uploaded to the institutional website. Curriculum delivery is in a well-planned and elective manner. As this college is a government college run by the Higher Education Department, Govt. of M.P. and affiliated to RDVV, Jabalpur, the Curriculum is designed, developed and upgraded by the respective departments in the university under the active and efficient supervision of subject experts selected from different disciplines with view to maintain uniformity. The same syllabus is followed at UG and PG levels in the whole state. The college adheres to the Curriculum and Syllabi and makes every effort to follow the contents and spirit contained therein. The learning outcomes are clearly stated for all academic programmes and courses of the college. These outcomes reflect the vision and mission of the college. They are framed in keeping in view the attributes which enable the students to work effectively and fruitfully in a team.
